Kupu Hou

What is the Māori word for climate change? Recently, we had the privilege of finding the answer to this question through our work developing kupu (words) for the building regulatory system at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as part of a style guide.

‍He aha te kupu Māori mō climate change?

What is the Māori word for climate change? Recently, we had the privilege of finding the answer to this question through our work developing kupu (words) for the building regulatory system at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as part of a style guide.

Our mahi:

We worked alongside the team at MBIE to create a list of priority kupu, and our kaituhi, Emma Te Rina Smith, developed the list in te reo. Then, we worked with the expert translations team at Te Taura Whiri to confirm the kupu. These have now been published on the Reo Māori website for use across the building and construction sector.

Here’s the kupu Māori we helped to develop:

👉🏽 Āhuarangi Takahurihuri | Climate change
👉🏽 Pūngao whāomo | Energy efficient
👉🏽 Waiāwhā | Stormwater
👉🏽 Te ao hanganga | Building & Construction
